AEOS 3 OPEN FOR BUSINESS
The new AEOS 3 scheme is now offically open with the terms and conditions and the application forms up on the department of agriculture website today. The scheme will be prioritised to firstly farmers in the Boora area of Co. Offaly. The next in line will be farmers with more than 0.5 ha of of Natura habitat and then non- natura commonage or a mixed Natura and non- Natura commonage over 0.5 ha in size. Farmers previously in REPS 3, smaller farms and farms located in less favoured areas will be given priority in the scheme.
The deadline for the applications into the scheme will be the 30th of November 2012. The contract will commence from April 2013 and will run for a term of five years.
The maximum payment per annum per farmer will be €4,000 . It is expected that there will be 6,000 farmers accepted into the scheme. Acceptance into the scheme won’t be based on a first come first served basis. It is based on a point system with different options gaining more points than others. One high ranking option is the installation of drinking troughs on the farm as there is great emphasis on water quality and climate change.
